Secondary Librarians' Summer Academy Day (SLSA Day) is sponsored by the Texas Education Service Center, Region XI and Arlington ISD Library Services Department to be held on June 16, 8 am. to 3:30 p.m. Registration is from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The program starts sharply at 8:30 a.m. at the Mac Bend Professional Development in Arlington, TX. The academy day focuses on "Engaging the 21st Century Learner".

The key note speaker for our event is Buffy Hamilton, the Unquiet Librarian.
Buffy Hamilton is a school library media specialist at Creekview High School in Canton, Georgia. Hamilton, who earned her Ed.S. in Instructional Technology and School Library Media at the University of Georgia in 2005, has seventeen years of experience as an educator with the Cherokee County School District. Her professional interests include applications of Web 2.0 tools in library programs and instruction, participatory librarianship, social media, transliteracy, social scholarship, inquiry, connectivism, and helping her students craft personal learning networks. She has presented at national library conferences, including Internet@Schools West, Internet@Schools East, and the American Association of School Librarians National Conference. In addition, she has contributed articles to Knowledge Quest and Library Media Connection; she is a member of the AASL Blog team and the Communications Coordinator for the Georgia Library Media Association. She blogs as The Unquiet Librarian at http://www.theunquietlibrarian.wordpress.com .
